Simple, powerful, and affordable, the Vigbody HL-5230S Indoor Exercise Bike is a sleek at-home budget spin bike that fits right in with any personal workout space. From the Vigbody brand, the new Vigbody HL-5230S Indoor Exercise and Spin bike is a portable yet powerful spin bike perfectly designed for the beginner home cyclists excited to dive into spin and cycling without breaking the bank.

The Vigbody HL-5230S indoor exercise bike is designed and made for a new cyclist, providing gentle practice and a stable base from which to build your cycling abilities. Easily moved and lightweight, this bike is built for smooth training and at-home workout. So, you can begin building your cycling endurance right away without having to deal with monthly gym fees or a hefty home gym investment. With a price tag of just $260 USD, this is definitely an affordable purchase and a great entry into the home fitness world while sticking to a budget.

The technical capabilities of the Vigbody HL-5230S indoor bike are nice for their price point. Offering strong yet smooth magnetic resistance, a standard 24 lb fixed flywheel, and an included performance monitor that tracks your rides for easy integration into your fitness routine, the Vigbody team goes above and beyond to offer high-quality performance and durability at a low price.

With an adjustable frame, sleek belt drive system, and comfortable flywheel, this indoor cycling bike was made to fit in. The cushioned bike seat and handlebars are designed to move in two directions, becoming fairly customizable to your body and your needs. This bike can accommodate a variety of riders (heights ranging from 4 feet to 6) with total dimensions of 42.5 x 36 x 10 inches and a maximum weight capacity of 330 lbs, though riders recommend closer to 200 lbs.

Vigbody HL-5230S Comparison!

In 2020, I believe for $250, you don’t get a much better deal than the Vigbody indoor bike. It has good features including magnetic resistance and belt driven transmission.

However, if you can afford to add $100 more to you budget, I seriously suggest you to considering looking into HMC indoor cycling bike.

Featuring a more durable structure, heavier flywheel, RPM monitor, and a fully customisable handlebars, the HMC is a much better spin bike than Vigbody. But if you can’t invest more than $250, rest assured you are getting a good value spin bike for home use.

  • Height: 32.8-38.7”
  • Bike Weight: 64 Pounds

The Vigbody HL-5230S has a compact design while still delivering a powerful performance. Thanks to its smooth drive belt system and portable frame, it meets a variety of needs while performing well in every category.

The belt and flywheel work in tandem to create an intense workout, and its included transport wheels mean that you can easily wheel and plant this bike wherever you want to work out without having to drag it all over the place.

From its portability to its compact yet extensive design and performance, the Vigbody HL-5230S magnetic spin bike is sure to be a great fit for any growing cyclist.

Digital Monitor:

Vigbody bike monitor
  • The digital monitor console on the Vigbody HL-5230S is battery powered
  • Measures speed, distance (miles or kilometers, plus an odometer mode), time, and calories
  • Does not offer Bluetooth or smart app integration, unlike many competitor models
  • Can’t sync ride data up with external apps or recorders
  • There is no backlit on the monitor for this bike

The digital monitor that comes with the Vigbody HL-5230S indoor cycling bike is very basic, yet effective. It tracks your speed, calories, and time.

However, its simple design brings some negatives as well: you can’t export or sync ride data (like you would do with the Xgear indoor bike), so if you want to track or transfer your rides you’ll have to hand copy the details off your monitor or rely on an external strap or watch to track yourself.

Unfortunately it doesn’t track rider’s RPM and there is no backlit on the monitor so it’s hard to see the stats, especially if there is not enough light in the room.

Q-Factor and Pedals:

Vigbody HL-5230S pedals
  • Pedals have toe cages for extra grip
  • Q-factor distance is not disclosed

The pedals included on the Vigbody HL-5230S bike are fairly standard: simple bike pedals with included toe cages to keep your feet from slipping off the pedal mid stride. However, they are not SPD compatible, which could be a big issue.

SPD is a must-have for any cyclist. Most SPD pedals are double sided – that means you can clip into either side of the pedal, which makes starting from a stationary position (not pedaling) a lot easier. Some riders prefer the additional security that comes from knowing that you need to push hard to move the wheel, but if you’re just starting out you may want less tension.

For beginning riders, not being able to train with SPD compatibility could be a problem later on if you’re looking to increase your spinning abilities, but if you’re just looking for a standard indoor bike these pedals will do the trick. You can also always order SPD-equipped replacement pedals: we’ve got a list of our favorites here to check out as well. The pedals unscrew easily to replace, but they can also become loose during your ride, which is a big safety hazard.

Vigbody HL-5230S Flywheel:

Vigbod indoor bike flywheel
  • 24 lbs fixed flywheel to pedal forward and reverse
  • Durable and stable during all spinning positions
  • Employs magnetic resistance to drive up workout intensity

Unlike bikes with traditional tension based chain systems, bikes with magnetic resistance never come in contact with the flywheel, resulting in a silent, sleek, and virtually no-maintenance experience. This fixed flywheel offers a superior wheel experience, propelling users forward and anchoring firmly in place to create a firm workout without adding extra weight to the machine.

Fixed flywheels work by generating internal traction that propels the pedals forward as you push, meaning you work hard with every stride to earn a good workout. However, this flywheel is relatively low weight, which means that it’s hard to get a good burn going and you may outgrow the bike quickly.

The heavy duty crank system and durable perimeter on the flywheel make it quite resistant to damage, so you won’t have to worry about bumping it into corners in your home or gym. The flywheel, like the rest of the bike, is built to last, so you’ll have no problem riding it for years to come, even if you do get used to the weight.

Vigbody HL-5230S Resistance:

Vigbody HL-5230S resistance
  • The Vigbody HL-5230S features an adjustable magnetic resistance system.
  • Variable adjustment knob cranks up resistance before or during rides.

The Vigbody HL-5230S bike is rather unique in its approach to adjusting resistance. Instead of having a set amount of resistance levels like many similar exercise bikes, the variable adjustment knob allows a rider to adjust the resistance settings with the twist of a knob.

While this does help the rider customize their intensity more specifically to their needs, it lacks the third-party or electronic resistance options that more advanced bikes offer, like resistance levels that simulate specific terrain or target specific workout types.

Interval workouts are hard with knob adjustments, so this bike is better suited for long cardio-based style rides than regular interval intensity changes such as hill or terrain training. The knob also does not allow for more refined adjusting, meaning that you can’t really push yourself as hard as you might on a higher end model.

Handlebars and Seat:

Vigbody specs
  • Two-way adjustable handlebars
  • Four-way adjustable padded seat
  • Device holder that would allow riders to store phones, tablets, or books while they ride.

Another feature of the Vigbody HL-5230S magnetic spin bike is the personalization available due to the adjustable handlebars and seat.

They offer many possible positions a rider could want and both riders who normally train indoors and those who ride outdoors can find their preferred arm positions with little to no trouble adjusting and creating a good fit. It also features a wide range of height adjustment, so short and average height riders can share this bike without problems.

However, the handlebars do not adjust horizontally. Therefore, you will not be able to adjust the bike for an upright position. Though this isn’t going to affect the practical use of the bike, it is an inconvenience that some may find troublesome and annoying when trying to ride.

Price and Warranty:

  • The Vigbody HL-5230S bike is currently priced at about $260 USD
  • The Vigbody HL-5230S bike’s warranty includes 12 months with a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee
  • For warranty questions or parts replacement, you can contact the manufacturers through Amazon for more information.

The price of this bike in comparison to the range of features it offers and the range of other bikes available is impressive.

These are great bikes for those who are just starting out in cycling and not ready to commit to a higher-end machine but do want to get in the game and start with a lighter and cheaper machine.

This Vigbody warranty will make sure that if you do decide to drop the money on this exercise machine, it will be protected 100% with a lengthy coverage period so you can truly test the machine and decide for yourself if it’s the right fit for you.

Assembly and Shipping:

  • Shipped in a single box, with limited assembly required
  • Should take about 1-2 weeks to arrive normally, though there are a variety of factors that could affect that especially during COVID shipping
  • Shipping dimensions of about 39.5 x 35 x 9.5 inches; 70 Pounds

Assembling your Vigbody HL-5230S is very simple. The complicated parts, such as the flywheel and the belt system, come pre-assembled, so you won’t need a complicated mechanic’s degree to attach them.

Assembly diagrams are clear and take two people about half an hour to complete, a little more for just a single person. Shipping timeframes will depend on the carrier, but if you have concerns about getting it into your house you can call ahead and arrange assistance with your local delivery system.

Vigbody HL-5230S Indoor Cycle Pros:

Lightweight and portable design:
This is one of the most portable indoor exercise bikes out there. The included front wheels make transport even easier, so you can wheel the bike to wherever you feel like exercising today and then quickly push it back into its storage place until you’re ready to use it again. However, the flywheel is still solidly attached and the frame is sturdy enough to last through tons of workouts with no issues.

Affordable price and magnetic resistance:
Unlike most competitors in this price tag, the Vigbody HL-5230S spin bike comes with magnetic resistance (not friction) which is smoother, quieter, and requires little to no maintenance. Also, it’s priced well considering that some brands price similar bikes above $300.

Vigbody HL-5230S Indoor Cycle Cons:

Low-weight Flywheel:
This is a con that will really depend on the rider. The low flywheel could be nice for people with knee problems or who need low-impact exercise options, but it also is easily overcome with training and will not last long for hard-working cyclists. For people who need more resistance or a harder workout, this is not the bike for you.

No SPD-Pedals:
The lack of SPD-integrated pedals is an equally big issue. SPD is a huge component of spin and cycling, so not having pedals that are compatible with cleats or other elements of the SPD pedaling system feels like a major miss. Though you can easily replace your pedals with third-party options, it’d be nice to not have to spend the extra cash right away and that they’d simply be included with the bike. The current pedals also tend to come loose very easily, which makes them a safety hazard.

Monitor and handlebars:
There is no RPM reading and backlit on the monitor. Also, the handlebars are only vertically adjustable (not horizontally). These are not necessarily dealbreakers (considering the price) because most spin bikes that do come with backlit and RPM monitor easily cost above $500.

Final Verdict on Vigbody HL-5230S

The Vigbody HL-5230S Magnetic Spin Bike under $500 is a good value indoor bike for its price point. The poor quality pedals are a huge issue, and the low weight flywheel is another major setback. The bike doesn’t have good resistance levels to challenge advanced user. However, the bike itself functions well for starters and intermediate riders regardless.

The magnetic flywheel resistance system of the Vigbody HL-5230S bike is helpful and functional for both beginning and intermediate spinners regardless. The magnetic resistance network makes braking and starting smooth, a great thing to have when you’re in the middle of an intensive workout. The knob adjustments, though challenging to use for interval workouts, are good for presetting levels for long cardio-heavy rides. The adjustable seat and handlebars make it a flexible fit for every rider, and its ease of transport and compact design mean it’s easily accessible and stored whether you’re at home or away.

At the end of the day, the Vigbody HL-5230S is a standard bike for intermediate cyclists working on scaling up their spin skills. It’s absolutely affordable, and the magnetic flywheel system is a huge draw, but the disappointing pedals and low weight sets it back a bit. However, for the simple beginner looking for an affordable but high-performing bike to start their cycling journey, the Vigbody HL-5230S may just be the perfect fit for you.

5.5Expert Score
Vigbody HL-5230S Indoor Exercise Bike

The Vigbody HL-5230S indoor exercise bike does offer an amazing price point, but it’s got a few cons that should be considered. The seamless incorporation of the stability flywheel and durable belt design are a big pro, but the lack of a quality monitor and SPD integrated pedals as well as lightweight wheel set it back from other similar bikes on the market. The Vigbody HL-5230S indoor spin bike certainly serves as an excellent piece of exercise equipment for beginning or intermediate users, but the underdeveloped screen makes it a poor fit for advanced riders.
