Best Upright Exercise Bikes In the UK

There are certain bikes that allow people to get fit when travelling through the United Kingdom. Some are traditional ones that you have to take out into the cold and rain before pedalling around for hours and returning home in a miserable state. Some, however, offer the same sort of fitness benefits and remove the annoyance of having to leave the home. These are upright exercise bikes in the United Kingdom.

Unlike recumbent exercise bikes that you lean backward or road bikes where you lean forward, these take the approach of making you sit at a more upright angle. They also tend to be cheaper than those spin bikes in the UK that try to simulate the regular cycling experience.

The upright posture makes these stationary bikes provide some of the lowest impact cardio exercises that you can do at home. So we’ve decided to go through and review some of the best upright bikes in the UK. After all, everyone could use some way to get their energy out during these trying times. So with all of that out of the way, let’s look at our picks for the best upright exercise bikes in the UK!

Best Overall Upright Exercise Bike in the UK

I highly recommend the Adidas C-21 exercise upright bike as the best overall upright exercise bike in the UK. I have personally used this bike, and I can attest to its quality and performance.

One of the things that make the Adidas C-21 bike stand out is its maximum user weight capacity of 150kg (331lbs) and product weight of 44kg (97lbs). This makes the bike sturdy and durable enough to accommodate users of different sizes and weights from 150cm to 190cm.

The bike has a 9kg (20lbs) flywheel and 24 levels of computer-controlled magnetic resistance that provide a smooth and challenging workout experience. I love the direct resistance keys on the console, which makes it easy to adjust the resistance level without interrupting my workout.

There are two console displays with backlit that provide real-time feedback on my workout progress, including time, speed, distance, calories burned, watts, RPM, resistance level, and pulse. I also appreciate the 15 programs, including manual, 12 pre-set programs, target HR mode, and watt mode, that offer a range of workout options.

One of the best features of the Adidas C-21 bike is the recovery function, which helps me assess my fitness level by measuring how quickly my heart rate returns to normal after a workout. The bike also comes with four user profiles, which is great for multiple users to track their progress.

The bike’s seat is wide and densely padded, with horizontal and vertical adjustment, making it comfortable for me to use. The pedals are high-grip with adjustable straps, providing a secure grip during workouts.

I also love the bike’s additional features, such as the integrated tablet/smartphone holder, stereo speakers with Bluetooth connectivity, water bottle holder, and base levellers. The Ultra series red LED lighting is a great touch, adding a stylish vibe to my workout space.

Finally, the Adidas C-21 bike comes with a 2-year warranty, which gives me peace of mind and ensures that I get the best value for my money. Overall, I highly recommend the Adidas C-21 exercise upright bike for anyone looking for a quality upright exercise bike in the UK.

Up first on our list of the best upright exercise bikes in the UK is the Adidas C-21 Exercise Bike. This bike seeks to make a German-quality upright bike for those living in the aisles.

The resistance system of the Adidas C-21 exercise bike is one that uses electronically controlled magnets in order to challenge you. This means that any sort of shift in the resistance level is controlled through the console. There are 24 different levels of resistance that use a belt drive in order to create a smoother and more quiet experience regardless of what level you pick.

These fitness upright bikes in the UK do tend to be taller than they are long. The dimensions of the C-21 are 42 inches (10.7 cm) long, 22 inches (57 cm) wide, and 58 inches (147 cm) tall. It weighs about 43 kg, yet can hold a decent weight limit of 150 lbs (330 kg).

The console is the highlight here. You can use the Kinomap, Zwift, and QZ app connections, use one of the 15 pre-programmed workout programs, create your own user profiles to keep track of stats long-term and more. It’s a very good console. The handlebars and seat are adjustable, while the pedals are anti-slip.

8Expert Score
Verdict

What comes with the cost of these benefits is a hefty £450. While this isn’t the highest price, it should still make most hesitate. There are also common complaints about the customer service and assembly process, so it isn’t quite a perfect bike. But it’s still the best stationary upright exercise bike in the UK for the price tag.

Positive
  • Excellent Console, Good Adjustments, Plenty of Workout Variation, and Challenge
Negatives
  • Poor and Rude Customer Service, Tough Assembly Process

JLL JF600 PRO Upright Exercise Bike

as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

In second place on our list of the best upright bikes in the UK is the JLL JF600 PRO Exercise Bike. A little bit pricey, but this bike should provide all of the aspects you could want in one of these cycling upright bikes in the UK.

The resistance of the JF600 PRO is electromagnetic. It is controlled through the console and thus must be plugged into work. It uses a belt to make the entire process quieter and it generally requires less maintenance than a chain drive. There are 32 levels of resistance available, giving plenty of options of new users and veterans alike.

This is a fairly large upright bike, especially compared to some others in this realm. Its dimensions are 58 inches (147 cm) long, 20.7 inches (52.5 cm) wide and 44.5 inches (113 cm) tall. It weighs a total of 82.7 lbs (37.5 kg) and can hold a maximum weight limit of 265 lbs (120 kg).

The console on here displays stats like time, distance, calories burned and heart rate. You can connect to the iConsole+ if you have a separate phone or tablet. The seat is OK in regards to comfort, but some have complained of it making them sore after a while. The pedals are non-slip and decent enough, though some have had them break off.

7Expert Score
Verdict

For a price of £370, the JLL JF600 PRO is a good bike. It’s from a major manufacturer and one who is typically known for putting out good products. While there are slight imperfections, this bike is generally a good pick for those looking to grab one of the best upright stationary bikes in the UK.

Positive
  • Tons of Resistance Variation, UK-based brand, App Connectivity, Many Presets, Quiet & Low Maintenance
Negatives
  • Costly, Uncomfortable Seat, Questions About Durability

Bluefin Fitness TOUR 5.0 Exercise Bike

Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

Featured in several best exercise bike reviews in the UK, we have the Bluefin Fitness TOUR 5.0 Exercise Bike in the third place on our buying guide and comparison list. This upright workout bike takes a very similar approach to the ESX500 in terms of designs and features.

The resistance of the TOUR 5.0 is electromagnetic, so you’ll once again have to use the console in order to change the challenge of your workout. There are 24 different levels of resistance by default, with the 26 lb (12 kg) flywheel powered by a belt drive that makes everything much more quiet.

The dimensions of the TOUR 5.0 sit at 40 inches (101 cm) long,19.6 inches (50 cm) wide and 49 inches (126 cm) tall. The weight of the bike sits right at 72 lbs (33 kg). There is no listed maximum weight limit available, though at a max, we’d bet it’s 300 lbs (136 kg).

There are 12 programs available from the console for different exercises. You can also track stats like speed, time, distance, pulse & calories burned. You get a tablet holder, handlebars that are vertically adjustable, and a seat that’s adjustable 4 ways. There’s also pulse monitors on the handlebars for that tracking.

7Expert Score
Verdict

The cost of the Bluefin Fitness TOUR 5.0 exercise bike is £225. This is relatively cheap. There are reported issues of problems with Bluetooth connections and settings. That tablet holder we mentioned before is also a little weak.

Positive
  • Good Variation in Resistance, Bluetooth, Strong Flywheel, Good Console with preset workouts, and fully adjustable seat
Negatives
  • Rough Bluetooth Connections, No USB charging port, cooling fan, or speakers

Viavito Satori Stationary Exercise Bike

 in stock
3 new from £228.85

as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

The Viavito Satori Exercise Bike is one that goes for a cool black and red look. But just how well does it match up to some of the other options we’ve got listed?

The resistance of the Viavito Satori has an impressive 32 levels of magnetic resistance. Once again, this is all controlled through the console of the bike. The flywheel weighs around 9kg (19.8lbs) and uses a belt drive like almost all magnetic bikes tend to.

The look of the Viavito Satori makes it seem like a fairly large bike, but it doesn’t really feel like one or take up that kind of space. Maybe that’s because of it’s relatively light weight at 68.3lbs (31kg). The dimensions measure out to be 39 inches (100 cm) long, 21 inches (54 cm) wide and 51 inches (130 cm) tall. The maximum weight of this bike stands at 308.6 lbs (140kg).

The console of the Satori displays stats like time, speed, calories, distance and more. It also has 20 programs and the ability for 4 user profiles to be set up. The seat is fairly comfortable, with a fair amount of padding. The handlebars have some pulse sensors on them in order to give you even more information on your workouts.

6Expert Score
Verdict

The price is fairly good for the value. The Viavito Satori Exercise Bike costs £345, with a 2 year parts and labour warranty. More warranties are always appreciated, so that’s another factor in its favour. However, there are some questions about the long-term durability of the bike.

Positive
  • Excellent Resistance, Wireless HRM, Quality Console with preset programs, Good Warranty,
Negatives
  • Costly, No USB charging port, cooling fan, or speakers, Questions About Durability

DKN AM-E Upright Exercise Bike

 in stock
2 new from £239.99
Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

Midway through our list, we have the DKN AM-E Upright Bike. This bike takes a very simple, yet elegant approach to its design and works from there.

Once again, we have a resistance that is controlled from the main console of the bike. There are 32 different levels to pick from, allowing both veterans and newcomers to find their level. It uses a poly-v belt in order to make the entire exercise process that much smoother and more quiet.

The dimensions of the DKN AM-E are as follows: it measures to be 37.5 inches (95.25 cm) long, 22 inches (56 cm) wide and 54 (137 cm) tall. It weighs right around 79 lbs (36 kg) and can hold a maximum weight of 300 lbs (136 kg).

The console looks fairly basic, but it has a nice blue backlit and can track stats like time, distance, RPM, speed, watts and calories. It also offers 12 different workouts from the get-go, allowing you to pick different workouts for different times. The seat is fairly comfortable while also being adjustable 4 ways. However, the handlebars are only vertically adjustable.

6Expert Score
Verdict

The problem with the DKN AM-E is that it costs a hefty £400. While it does come with warranties of 2 years on the frame. There have also been complaints about customer service and durability, putting that high price into question.

Positive
  • Excellent resistance, good variation of programs, comfortable Seating
Negatives
  • Costly, Questions About Durability, No tablet holder

WinNow Home Exercise Bike

 in stock
Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

Moving into the second half of our list of the best upright bikes in the UK, we have the WinNow Exercise Bike. It’s a costly bike, but should still do the trick.

The WinNow Exercise Bike uses a magnetic resistance system in order to give you access to different challenges. Specifically, there are only 8 levels of resistance, which isn’t a great deal in comparison to others here. All of these are still controlled from the main console. It uses a belt drive in order to keep everything nice and quiet as usual.

The dimensions of the WinNow Exercise Bike are fairly straightforward. It measures out to be 24 inches(60.4 cm) long, 12 inches (31 cm) wide and 34 inches (86.2 cm) tall. It weighs right around 64 lbs (29 kg). There is no listed maximum weight for this bike.

In addition to controlling the resistance levels, the console also displays stats like distance, pulse, speed, and time. There is a tablet and water bottle holder to go along, while both the seat and handlebars are adjustable (4-way and 2-way respectively). The seat can be rather shaky and uncomfortable at times, which is certainly not ideal.

5Expert Score
Verdict

For the price of, there are better deals on the market. While the resistance systems and console of the WinNow are good, the uncomfortable/unstable seating just isn’t very nice to be on for long periods of time.

Positive
  • Quality Resistance, Preset programs, Okay Console
Negatives
  • Shaky and Uncomfortable Seat, Questionable Value-For-Money

XS Sports B510 Magnetic Exercise Bike

 out of stock
Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

Coming in seventh of our list of the best upright bikes in the UK is the XS Sports B510 Magnetic Exercise Bike. This is a black and slick looking upright back that performs well, but has some weaknesses.

The resistance of the B510 is the first on our list to use a manual resistance system. Instead of controlling it through a monitor, it uses a knob right under the handlebars. The drive system is not mentioned, but we’re pretty sure it’s a belt one considering the type of resistance and performance of the bike.

In terms of the dimension of the B510, it actually has a rather large footprint of one of these upright bikes in the UK. It’s dimensions are 34 inches (86 cm) long, 14.8 inches (45 cm) wide and 55 inches (140 cm) tall. The weight of the B510 is right around 53 lbs (24 kg), which is actually pretty light. So it is a light, large bike apparently.

There is an extremely barebones monitor on here that tracks stats like burnt calories, time, speed and distance. There are pulse sensors on the handlebars, but that’s it. The seat is adjustable and just comfortable enough, though don’t expect anything too good. There’s a tablet holder, but that’s about all the features that come with this bike.

5Expert Score
Verdict

The regular retail price of the B510 is £250, which isn’t great. However, it can drop to £220. Both are a bit high for what it delivers, but there’s enough to justify it somewhat.

Positive
  • Durable Design, Fully adjustable seat, Sturdy Feel, lightweight and affordable price.
Negatives
  • No Real Technology, No preset programs, dark non-backlit screen, and Questionable Value-For-Money

Marcy Stationary Upright Exercise Bike

 in stock
Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

In 8th place is the Marcy Upright Exercise Bike. This bike comes from one of the larger names in the industry, but doesn’t quite match up to some of the other options here.

The resistance of the Marcy Upright Exercise Bike also uses a manual mode of resistance control rather than the console. There are 8 preset levels of fitness that you can pick from in order to challenge yourself or anyone else who cycles on it. It’s a magnetic resistance system, so the likely drive system is a poly-v belt.

The dimensions of the Marcy measure out to be 33 inches (84 cm) long, 22 inches (56 cm) wide and 52 inches (132 cm) tall. It weighs around 50 lbs (22.7 kg). The estimated maximum weight limit of this bike should be around 300 lbs (136 kg).

There is an LCD screen that should let you know the time, distance, calories burned and speed. And that’s it. The handlebars are adjustable vertically, while the seat is adjustable 4-ways. The seat is also not particularly comfortable. Otherwise, there isn’t a whole lot else that comes with this bike.

5Expert Score
Verdict

For a price of around £217, this is a questionable buy. Yes, it has a sturdy design and smooth resistance system, that’s a lot to pay for nothing else. This is an extremely basic bike, so if you are looking for nothing else, you can look here.

Positive
  • Durable Design, Fine Resistance Variation, Basic LCD Screen
Negatives
  • Lack of Any Other Features, No tablet holder, No preset workouts, Seat adjust only up and down, Uncomfortable Seating

JLL JF100 Stationary Exercise Bike

2 new from £154.99
Free shipping
Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

Nearing the end of our list, we have the JLL JF100 Home Exercise Bike. It is not a foldable exercise bike but it is a very compact and fairly cheap bike that does what it needs to and that’s about it. Whether this is ideal for you is your call.

The resistance here does specify that it uses a belt driven system, which is certainly nice. You still have a manual control of the magnetic resistance levels through a knob on the bike. There are 10 different resistance levels available, giving a decent variety to the resistance.

In terms of the dimensions, this actually has a fairly small footprint. It measures out to be 24.4 inches (62 cm) long, 20 inches (51 cm) wide and 47 inches (120 cm) tall. It weighs right around 40 lbs (18.1 kg) and can hold a maximum weight of 220 lbs (100 kg).

For the LCD screen that is here, it doesn’t do much beyond track stats like time, speed, distance, calories, odometer and pulse. The pulse is monitored through the handlebars, which are vertically adjustable. The seat is adjustable 4 ways, although it doesn’t have a ton of options. It also isn’t terribly comfortable for longer sessions.

5Expert Score
Verdict

The retail price of the JF100 is £200, though it has been known to drop to £160. This is actually a fairly reasonable price, although there aren’t any warranties that we could find, which is unfortunate. For a cheap bike, this isn’t a bad price and for sure one of the best exercise upright bikes in its class.

Positive
  • Solid Resistance, Cheap, Quiet Design
Negatives
  • Uncomfortable Seating that adjusts only up and down, No tablet holder, No preset workouts, Extremely Basic Monitor

Yo-Yo Seated Upright Desk-Bike

 in stock
2 new from £499.95
Amazon.co.uk
as of June 7, 2023 6:49 am

For our last bike in the top upright bikes of the UK is an unorthodox one. Instead of a console, you’ve got a desk for laptops or other entertainment.

There are 8 levels of magnetic resistance available with the Yo-Yo Desk Bike. The upper levels offer some resistance, but it certainly isn’t the most challenging that you will find. We assume there’s a belt drive involved because it’s fairly quiet.

Its dimensions measure out to be 37.8 inches (96 cm) long, 23 inches (59 cm) wide and 47 inches (120 cm) tall. The weight of the bike sits right around 88 lbs (40 kg) and has a maximum weight limit of 300 lbs (135 kg). It’s a surprisingly heavy bike, but then again, there is a desk on it.

There is an extremely minuscule monitor on the bike that can swap between stats like time, distance, RPM, and calories. Instead, the main attraction is the desk that can hold laptops, tablets, books, or anything else. It’s easy to assemble, but otherwise doesn’t really offer any other features. The seat and desk are adjustable vertically.

5Expert Score
Verdict

The problem here is that the Yo-Yo DESK Bike costs a mighty £400 normally, though it has been known to drop down to £350. Regardless, this is a heck of a lot to pay for a bike that basically acts like a desk. While the 2-year warranty is nice, it just seems like too much to pay here.

Positive
  • A Cool Desk, Quiet During Workout, 2 Year Warranty
Negatives
  • Poor Value-For-Money, Seat adjusts only up and down, No preset workouts, Tiny Monitor, Poor Levels of Resistance

Buying Guide To Find A Good Upright Bike in the UK

Now we’re going to state some of the individual components you should look at to make sure the bike you are interested in is right for you and you are getting the best upright bikes for the money in the UK.

Type of Resistance: All of these resistance types are magnetic. However, you can also get 2 different magnetic resistances- one controlled manually and one controlled from the monitor. The ones controlled via computer (electronically) are better since they are the only ones that come with preset/built-in programs/workouts.

Monitor: These can do anything from display simple statistics to controlling the workout and connecting to fitness apps. When searching for the best stationary bikes in the UK, make sure you know what its monitor can do in order to get the most out of these pieces of technology.

Price: These best-rated stationary exercise bikes in the UK can vary vastly in range depending on what is offered. Make sure you know you can afford it and what features it comes with before ordering. Price does’t NOT always indicate quality when buying upright exercise bikes on Amazon. There are some greedy brands put insane price tags on their products (we excluded them in this comparison of best upright exercise bikes in the United Kingdom).

Adjustability: Having adjustable handlebars and seats that can adapt to your body will most definitely help the experience you get onboard. If you take a look at the seat of the upright bike that you want to purchase in the United Kingdom, you should be able to say if it adjusts forward, backward, up and down. There are some that only adjust up and down which means you may not be able to set closer to bike handlebars, monitor, or your tablet and have a more comfortable posture.

Comfort: The seats are crucial parts of exercise upright bikes in Britain. You’ll want to make sure that you can fit on it and stay there for long periods of time. Otherwise, you will find yourself using it less and less, which ruins the point. With that said, it is not a dealbreaker because you always replace yours with a more comfortable seat exercise bike seat.
